Malvan’s Bhandari Education Society Junior College’s Students initiative of ‘A Rakhee for Indian soldiers’ ; Record setting 17,507 hand made Rakhees crafted by students. ( Special Report )

Malvan Tehsildar Mrs. Varsha Zalte appreciates this initiative on the festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Malvan | Special Report : Every Indian wants to show a gesture of gratitude towards their soldiers. Bhandari Education Society Junior College Students from Malvan, (district Sindhudurga) have their own way of showing gratitude on the occasion of Rakshabandhan festival which is a symbol of brother and sister relationship. So ‘A Rakhee for the soldiers’ on the border by the junior college was organized by Professors is being implemented from the concept of Prof. Pawan Bandekar and this year is the seventh year of this remarkable initiative. This year, the students of this junior college have crafted a record setting 17,507 Rakhees with their own hands for the soldiers protecting the country on the border.

Malvan Tehsildar Mrs. Varsha Zalte and Malvan PSI Mr. Praveen Kolhe were the chief guests for this ininnitive’s ceremony. While addressing students Mrs.Varsha Zalte said that sending Rakhees to our soldiers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan is a commendable activity to show gratitude to the soldiers who protect the country by risking their lives on the borders of the country. Today, along with men, women are also in military service and protecting the country. Therefore, along with female students, students should also send Rakhees to their soldier sisters on the border. Speaking here, Tehsildar Mrs. Varsha Zalte asserted that even though the soldiers are fighting for the country, the citizens of the country should also be empowered like soldiers and continue to serve the country through their respective work.

A record number of 17,507 Rakhees have been made by their own hands and they will be sent by post to the soldiers stationed in various areas along the borders of the country. For this inninnitive , former student and director of a techno company Mr. Mangesh Kulkarni has supported immensely.

This ceremony of sending these Rakhees was held yesterday on 8 th August in the presence of Malvan Tehsildar Varsha Zalte and Police Inspector Praveen Kolhe. The program was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries and garlanding of the images of the Goddess Saraswati and the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Ex-service man Mr. Deepak Bagwe, Principal Hanmant Tivale, Prof. Pawan Bandekar, Librarian Mr. Prafulla Desai and other dignitaries, staff members and students were present on this occasion. The students welcomed the dignitaries and tied Rakhee to them. Mr. Prafulla Desai introduced the guests. Prof. Pawan Bandekar described this inninnitive’s journey of seven consecutive years. Ms. Prerna Parab, a student of the eleventh arts faculty who crafted the most number of Rakhees was honored along with other students.

On this occasion, Tehsildar Varsha Zalte appreciated this initiative and urged students to send Rakhees for women soldiers next time. Also informed about the Navy Day celebrated on December 4 at Sindhudurg Fort in Malvan. On this occasion, Police Inspector Praveen Kolhe, ex-serviceman Deepak Bagwe also appreciated the initiative of sending Rakhees to soldiers.

Pr. Sunanda Waradkar was the host for this ceremony. The thanks giving to all dignitaries and present co-operaters was done by Pr. Snehal Paradkar. Pr. Jitendra Gawde, Pr. Ganesh Sawant, Pr. Mrs. Aaditi Sherlekar, Mrs. Gawde, Pooja Kadam, Mr. Rajan Kamat, Mr. Ratnakar Kolambkar, Mr. Bhargav Kharde and others were present for this memorable occasion. The whole Malvan town appreciate this thought and initiative.
